At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Brooksville City Council accepted a $50,000 contribution from Duke Energy earmarked to maintain the Good Neighbor Trail.
A Duke Energy representative thanked the city and said the company is performing infrastructure upgrades in the area; staff confirmed the check had already been mailed. The mayor and council expressed appreciation for corporate support of local trail maintenance.
The council also recognized Pickett’s Ace Hardware for a donation supporting the fire department’s community risk reduction program, which funds smoke detectors, public education and CPR classes.
Brent Gonzalez, cemetery supervisor, described plans for Wreaths Across America on Dec. 14 and said organizers aim to sponsor roughly 600 wreaths (about $17 each). He outlined ongoing fundraising partnerships with local restaurants (Panera Bread fundraiser set for Sept. 13; Texas Roadhouse and Chick-fil-A also in discussions) and requested volunteers to help lay wreaths and speak names of veterans. Gonzalez said the volunteer sign-up and sponsorship pages are accessible through the Wreaths Across America portal for the Florida Brooksville Historic Cemetery.
Council members praised the partnerships and pledged to help publicize fundraisers and volunteer opportunities.
