Commission hears parks trail update, approves $2,000 Rotary grant application and reviews administrative items

St. Francois County staff told commissioners that phase 2 of the county's trail system is nearing completion and is open to the public. "We are nearing the completion of our phase 2 trail. We have it open right now. It's just under a mile long ... we will be completely wrapping it up in the next couple weeks," 'Mike' said, adding that the full trail system is about "two and a half, two and 3/4" miles when loops are included and that park gate counts were averaging about 60,000 visits per year.
The board approved a motion to give county staff permission to apply for a Rotary Club grant to expand the community orchard. Staff described the Rotary grant as $2,000 with no local match; purchased supplies would be reimbursed if awarded.
In departmental reports, public works staff summarized recent storm cleanup, pothole repair, ditch work, concrete patches on Hilderbrick Road, mowing cycles and equipment maintenance. The roads report noted crews tracked equipment hours and fuel for possible reimbursement and that a turbo assembly on a tandem truck may require replacement pending bids.
Elections staff said final ballot proofs remain pending due to late state-level litigation; staff expected proofs back within two days and said printing would happen over the weekend to provide ballots early next week. Staff encouraged voters in higher-turnout precincts to use higher-capacity polling sites to avoid long lines and reminded applicants that liquor-license renewals are due by June 30.
