Village approves $2,449 claim to Ernie’s after 224 Elm sewer repairs

The Village of Ceresco Board of Trustees voted to pay $2,449 to Ernie’s owner Keith Urbom on Aug. 19, 2025, resolving a claim for sewer-related repairs and lost rental income tied to 224 Elm Street.
Urbom told the board he received a call on May 13 reporting sewer issues at the rental property and that renters went without sewer service for 23 days, producing lost rent claims. Village utility staff and contractors (Wright Way Plumbing, VRBA) investigated. Public-works representative Brian Roland described red-clay tile deterioration, sand accumulation where clay tile existed, and a split in the service line likely resulting from an earlier tapping operation. VRBA installed a double cleanout and located the service; they also camera-inspected lines and found multiple service taps, complicating identification of the house connection.
After discussion about whether the service had been previously compromised and whether services were TV’d during the water-main work, Trustee Burklund moved to pay Urbom’s claim. The motion was seconded and carried with Yeas: Burklund, Johnson, Ruble, Custer and Peterson.
The board directed Administrator Ogden and staff to coordinate with the project engineer to ensure proper documentation and to review whether sewer services should be TV’d in future water-main projects to avoid repeat occurrences.
