Riverhead honors CAP peer leaders; police sergeants sworn in at town board meeting

Riverhead — The Town Board opened its June 16 meeting by honoring Riverhead Community Coalition peer leaders and seniors from the Riverhead High School CAP program.
Councilwoman Mary Field introduced the CAP program, noting its long history and work on PSAs, medication takebacks and peer education. The board played a short CAP video urging sober celebration at graduation and acknowledged that the program has collected more than 14,000 pounds of unused medication since 2014. Several CAP students were invited to the front to receive recognition awards.
Later on the agenda the board moved a resolution to promote two police officers to sergeant. After the resolution passed, Chief Frost administered the oath of office to Cole Monafusco and Travis Wooten and family members joined them for photos. Board members congratulated the newly promoted sergeants.
What happens next: CAP outreach continues under the town’s community partners. The promoted sergeants will assume the responsibilities of their new rank and complete required administrative processing.
