Fire chief says Prop 207 won’t affect district drug-free policies; Rapid Deploy CAD paused

During his report to the board on Dec. 18, 2020, District Administrator and Fire Chief Douglas Chappell addressed two operational items: the potential effect of Arizona Proposition 207 on district policies and the status of a new computer-aided dispatch system.
Chief Chappell said Prop 207 "would have no impact on Policies because in order to solicit federal grants, the District must remain a Drug Free Workplace." He added that Prop 207 was written with that situation in mind. On the Rapid Deploy computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, Chappell said the vendor asked the district to pause implementation and requested that the VECC (the dispatch center) revert to the legacy CAD system while the vendor works to fix reported issues and release a functioning system.
Board members did not take formal action on either item during the meeting; the comments were provided as part of the chief’s written report that was made part of the minutes.
