Board approves routine financial reports and authorizes auditor retention

The Drexel Heights Fire District Board approved the checks-issued listings dated Feb. 29 and Mar. 31, 2020 and the monthly financial reports for the same periods, following a brief question from Board Member Laura Dailey about vendor 'Cutting Edge,' which Chief Chappell said repaired Shop 9902 after the accident.
The Board also authorized the Fire Chief to retain the accounting firm Beach Fleischmann for the FY2020 audit and granted the Chief discretion to add 2021 and 2022 audits based on continued performance. Chief Chappell said the firm has provided outstanding service to the district since 2017 and submitted a proposal in response to a request for proposals. The motion by James Bertrand, seconded by Charles Mendonca, passed 5-0.
Why it matters: maintaining timely audits and financial reviews is a routine but essential governance function that supports budget planning, insurance renewals and inter-district cooperation. Board members had no further questions and directed staff to continue FY2021 budget development.
The Board will continue the FY2021 budget discussion in May and consider publishing a draft budget at that meeting.
