Drexel Heights Fire District elects officers, approves monthly finances

The Drexel Heights Fire District governing board approved routine business and elected officers during its Dec. 18, 2020 regular meeting at district headquarters in Tucson. Board Chair Gary Bynum called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m., and a quorum was confirmed.
The board voted to approve the minutes of the Nov. 20, 2020 regular meeting after a motion by Laura Dailey and a second from Charles Mendonca; the motion passed 4-0. The board later approved the checks issued listing and the monthly financial report for the period ending Nov. 30, 2020 following brief discussion about property tax collections. Finance Manager Laurie Dunham was listed as present; Chief Douglas Chappell explained that the county treasurer’s timing made it appear more taxpayers had paid both halves of their property taxes, which affected the year-to-date totals. The financial report motion was moved by Gary Bynum, seconded by Laura Dailey, and passed 5-0.
In accordance with the district bylaws, the board held its annual officer elections. Chief Chappell reminded the board that officers serve one-year terms commencing Jan. 1. The board elected Gary Bynum as Board Chairperson and James Bertrand as Clerk of the Board; both motions were carried unanimously (5-0).
