Commission forms AI-assisted working group to update general plan

The Fountain Green Planning and Zoning Commission agreed June 11 to form a three-member working group to draft a streamlined general plan using examples from neighboring towns and AI-assisted tools.

Commission members said they were impressed by shorter, more readable general-plan examples they had reviewed and proposed a working process in which the group would combine Fountain Green's existing plan with a template from Fairview and produce a slimmed-down draft for commission review. "Roger, me, and Jim are our working group," the chair (S1) proposed; commissioners agreed the group should report back monthly.

Why it matters: A general-plan update guides long-term land-use decisions, infrastructure planning and ordinance changes. Commission members asked that the working group identify major items requiring council input and that staff confirm the city council's support for the project before major work proceeds.

What next: The working group will pilot an AI-assisted draft, compare it to the commission's redline items, and then — if appropriate — hand a polished recommendation to consultants (Shay/Sunrise Engineering) and city council for consideration.
