Drexel Heights board approves minutes and monthly financial report, sets 2021 meeting schedule

Drexel Heights Fire District’s governing board voted unanimously Oct. 23 to approve the minutes of its Sept. 25 meeting and the checks issued listing and monthly financial report for the period ending Sept. 30, 2020. Board Chair Gary Bynum presided over the telephonic meeting with a five-member quorum present.
Board member Laura Dailey raised a question about whether property tax revenue might decline because of COVID-19; District Administrator and Fire Chief Douglas Chappell told the board that county projections at the time indicated a near-normal year for property tax revenues. After the brief discussion, the board approved the financial report by a 5-0 vote (motion by Bynum, second by James Bertrand).
The board reviewed a draft 2021 meeting schedule prepared by staff that keeps regular meetings on the fourth Friday of each month, moving November and December to the third Friday to avoid holiday conflicts; no changes were requested. Chief Chappell asked members for priorities to guide development of the FY2022 budget and said staff does not currently anticipate significant revenue or expenditure shifts for that fiscal year.
Chief Chappell noted items expected on upcoming agendas, including presentation of the FY2020 audit and the swearing-in of newly elected board members. He also reminded members that the District will host the Tucson regional Arizona Fire District Association elected-officials training on Dec. 10 and that recently appointed board members have registered for the class. The meeting was adjourned at 9:17 a.m. by a 5-0 vote (motion by Bynum, second by Bertrand).
