Drexel Heights board asks county to cancel uncontested November election, approves records IGA and pandemic purchases

The Drexel Heights Fire District Board voted unanimously Aug. 28 to ask Pima County Elections to cancel the November 2020 election because three seats were uncontested and to have the Board of Supervisors appoint the candidates, and it approved a package of routine financial and operational measures.
Board Chair Gary Bynum moved to authorize Fire Chief Douglas Chappell to send a letter requesting cancellation of the election under Arizona law (A.R.S. 48‑802(D)(4)); the motion was seconded by Board member Laura Dailey and passed 5‑0. The district confirmed the three candidates to be appointed are incumbents James Bertrand and Charles Mendonca and volunteer Douglas Fink; the candidates are scheduled to assume their positions on Dec. 1, 2020.
The board also approved the checks‑issued listing and the monthly financial report for the period ending July 31, 2020 (motion moved by James Bertrand, seconded by Gary Bynum; vote 5‑0).
In other business the board adopted Resolution 2020‑14, authorizing an intergovernmental agreement that commits Drexel Heights to share Image Trend records management and electronic patient care reporting services with Green Valley and Corona de Tucson Fire Districts. Chief Chappell said the district is transitioning from ZOLL to Image Trend and that the IGA sets out Drexel Heights’ share of the subscription. The resolution passed on a 5‑0 vote (moved by James Bertrand; seconded by Laura Dailey).
The board also authorized the Fire Chief to purchase AmbuStat sterilizing foggers for use in ambulances and stations under a FEMA Public Assistance application; the equipment and related supplies are expected to be reimbursed through that grant. The fogger purchase motion passed 5‑0 (moved by James Bertrand; seconded by Charles Mendonca).
