The Board of Public Works on June 16 approved an access easement allowing Stop Construction to cross a city‑owned 50‑foot parcel (33‑05524) adjacent to 1800 South Lemley Avenue so the company can expand a yard onto a vacant parcel to the west.
Josh Mower, a city staff member, described the parcel and the request, saying the land was originally intended as a railroad spur and that Canadian National operates a rail line on the site. "Stop is requesting permission to cross that city property to access the new yard area from their existing site," Mower said. He explained staff recommends retaining city ownership and granting access by easement, and noted that CN will require Stop Construction to obtain a license or lease and to build a crossing that meets railroad safety standards.
During questions, a board member asked whether the crossing would be used for equipment or storage; Mower said it would be for equipment and storage and that the lot to the west is planned as a storage yard. A motion to approve the easement was moved, seconded and carried on voice vote.
