The Board of Public Works on June 16 authorized installation of two mid‑block street lights on Heidi Lane between Washburn Drive and Hume Avenue.
Tim Cassidy, city engineer, told the Board a property owner asked the city to add lighting because there is more than 1,100 feet between existing fixtures on the block. "The Board of Public Works policy proposes mid‑block lighting for blocks that are longer than 500 ft," Cassidy said. "We received an estimated cost of $20,199 to install these lights."
Cassidy said the proposed improvement would place lights at approximately 400‑foot intervals, meeting the policy requirement that mid‑block installations be made on blocks in excess of 500 feet and spaced at not more than 400‑foot intervals. He said the annual street lighting budget can cover the cost because energy savings from conversion to LED fixtures have freed capacity in the budget.
Board member Jen moved to approve the request and to authorize execution of an agreement with Marshfield Utilities; the motion was seconded and carried on voice vote.
