Chief Bowers provided a mid‑year report to the council on June 16, saying the police department has answered 3,822 calls from Jan. 1 to the meeting date. “We made 85 misdemeanor arrests, 29 felony arrests, and written 391 citations,” he said, an average of roughly 22 calls per day.
The chief described the calls as a mix—vehicle breakdowns, accidents, neighbor disputes, domestics and other routine public‑safety responses. He noted that complaints about loud mufflers and noisy trucks have dropped and credited recent enforcement and municipal court fines; he said his phone and email have received fewer citizen complaints.
No budget changes were proposed during the report; the chief said the department’s equipment and budget are 'where it's supposed to be.' He said the department will provide a year‑end update as well.
The council asked clarifying questions about docket sizes and trends; court staff previously noted increased court attendance and completion of magistrate training by Alexis Daniels.
