Covington council appoints AWC voting delegate and two youth council members, extends Citizen of the Year nominations

At its June 9 meeting the Covington City Council approved several routine and personnel items. In a voice vote the council appointed Council member Christina Sulttus to serve as the city’s voting delegate at the Association of Washington Cities annual business meeting on June 25. Council members who moved and seconded the nomination spoke in support of Sulttus’s knowledge of municipal issues.
The council also filled two positions on the Covington Youth Council. The council appointed Mila Mojis to position 9 and Christina Nwin to position 10, with terms beginning July 1, 2026 and expiring upon each appointee’s high-school graduation; council members cited the nominees’ leadership experience and community engagement when making the appointments.
Finally, the council voted to extend the nomination window for Citizen and Honorary Citizen of the Year through June 19, 2026 so staff can compile nominations in time for selection prior to Covington Days. Council discussed logistics for closing nominations and clarified that council members are allowed to nominate individuals and need not recuse themselves from the subsequent vote, per an on-the-record legal note during discussion.
