Lisbon Farmers' Market Committee questions feasibility of 2026 season after member resignation

Vice Chair Cheryle Jolly called the Farmers' Market Committee to order Wednesday evening at Lisbon Town Hall and opened discussion on whether the 2026 season can proceed after the resignation of L. Sweet, who had been handling Market Master responsibilities.
Committee members said the absence of someone to coordinate vendor placement and other on-site duties left a gap that must be filled before the market’s planned opening on Thursday, June 25. Members discussed roles, responsibilities and whether anyone could commit to taking on the Market Master duties for the season.
Rich Ruppel moved and Elizabeth Azewedo seconded approval of several routine items: the minutes from the April 22 regular meeting and acknowledgment of two canceled May meetings; reimbursement of $97.84 to J. Jencks for printing advertising cards; and reimbursement of $10.62 to L. Sweet for spray paint used to mark vendor areas. All motions passed by unanimous vote.
On the question of sponsorship, the committee discussed a proposed Relay for Life contribution but agreed it would first need a clearer picture of market finances before committing funds. Members moved agenda items to prioritize the finance discussion and voted to defer any sponsorship decision pending that review.
Because the committee concluded it needs more time to determine whether the market can operate without a Market Master, members scheduled a special meeting for Monday, June 15 to continue planning and reach a decision before the first market date.
The meeting adjourned at 6:50 p.m. after a unanimous vote. The committee’s minutes note correspondence from the Griswold-Lisbon Lions Club about a $750 donation and multiple vendor applications and fees that will also factor into planning discussions at the special meeting.
