Judiciary and Licensing Committee approves consent agenda, grants Purkis Properties license pending payment of taxes

The Marshfield Judiciary and Licensing Committee voted Tuesday to approve a consent agenda of temporary and renewal alcohol licenses and to grant a Class B combination liquor and fermented malt beverage license to Purkis Properties LLC for 501 South Central Avenue on the condition that the company pay outstanding property taxes.
The action came at a regularly scheduled meeting in City Hall Chambers. The chair called the meeting to order and the committee first approved the minutes from its June 2 meeting before moving to the consent agenda, which included a Class B temporary alcohol license for the Knights of Columbus event at the Central Wisconsin State Fairgrounds on July 10, 2026, a Marshfield Rotary Passing of the Gavel event on July 9 at the Laird Center, and a slate of Class A and Class B renewal applications for 2026–2027.
City Clerk Jessica Schiefelbein told the committee that some applicants on the consent agenda had outstanding balances but were aware of the fees. She said Purkis Properties had not paid any property taxes for the current tax year and that the municipal code requires all fees and taxes be paid to the city and county before issuing a license. "We do have in our code that all fees must be paid to the city and county before issuing a license," Schiefelbein said. She added, "If they would not pay those fees before June 30th, I would be bringing this back to you for revocation of a license." Schiefelbein recommended approving the license pending payment.
A committee member moved to approve the Purkis Properties license with the condition that outstanding taxes be paid; the motion was seconded and carried by vocal assent. The committee likewise approved the consent agenda items and the June 2 minutes by voice votes.
The committee did not receive public comment at the meeting. With no future agenda items offered, the committee moved, seconded and voted to adjourn.
