Union City Council sets new meeting schedule and hears project updates

On Aug. 13 the Union City Borough Council agreed to change its regular meeting schedule beginning in September 2024: meetings will be held the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next scheduled meetings are Aug. 27, 2024 and Sept. 16, 2024 (adjusted for the Labor Day holiday).
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported that the TA set‑aside sidewalk project remains in progress and announced an Erie County Planning kickoff event for park and trail improvements (Devereaux Day) on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, focused on the Erie‑to‑Pittsburgh Trail. The Union City Volunteer Fire Department requested use of a backhoe to demolish a shed at 10 Market Street; Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips said he would assist with the demo but would not provide the backhoe and council approved Public Works assistance without the backhoe.
Council also received the borough’s 2025 Minimum Municipal Obligation figures: $48,029 required payment for the non‑uniform pension and $0 for the police pension. On a motion by Councilor Joyce, seconded by Councilor Kerns, council approved the MMO figures; the motion carried unanimously.
Council President and department liaisons had no additional reports. The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
