The North Branford Town Council on June 16 voted to appoint Scott Nichols as town manager effective July 1, 2026. The council motion—moved by Deputy Mayor McMillan and seconded by Councelor Mace—set an annual salary of $160,000 and authorized an employment agreement in a form reviewed and approved by the town attorney, including a waiver of the charter’s residency requirement.
Scott Nichols, who was in the audience, addressed the council after the vote and said the appointment is a “tremendous opportunity in a great town.” He thanked the council for a thorough search and acknowledged Rory Burke for his service as acting town manager over the prior six months.
The council approved the motion after a recorded opposed vote and an abstention. Council members discussed the terms briefly during the motion and confirmed the contract will be presented in a form acceptable to the town attorney before execution.
Nichols said he looked forward to establishing relationships with department heads, boards and commissions and to serving the residents of North Branford.
