The Hammond Redevelopment Commission approved two applicants for the basement-backup protection program, which provides mitigation assistance for basement flooding.
Commissioners voted to approve funding for Gussie Richards of 817 Field Street and Adrienne Sergeant of 6730 Alabama; each applicant was approved for $5,250. The motion to approve both applicants was moved, seconded and passed by roll call with all present commissioners voting yes.
During the brief public exchange, Richards said she learned about the program from neighborhood mailings: "I saw something in the neighborhood," she said when asked how she found the program. Staff said the program is intended to provide peace of mind to homeowners and provided the specific addresses and award amounts on the record.
Next steps: staff will finalize award paperwork and proceed with program implementation for the two approved applicants.
