The Huntersville Board of Commissioners voted unanimously June 16 to approve a $75,000 nonprofit funding agreement to support Rebuilding Together Greater Charlotte's critical home-repair work in the Huntington Green community.
Mr. Williams introduced the request from the board's affordable housing fund. Beth Morrison of Rebuilding Together Greater Charlotte described the organization's repair scope, eligibility checks (gross combined income at or below 80% of area median income, deed restrictions to preserve affordability, inspection and permitting requirements, and homeowner insurance or agreement to obtain it), and partnerships with Lowe's, Lake Norman CDC and Caterpillar Ministries. Sarah Fortner of Caterpillar Ministries described initial work in Huntington Green: mold remediation, subfloor replacement and other safety-focused repairs for mobile and manufactured homes.
Morrison said Rebuilding Together is a licensed general contractor that combines staff, licensed subcontractors and trained volunteers to deliver repairs, and that the organization uses post-project surveys to measure long-term impact. She said Lowe's has committed $25,000 and Lake Norman CDC $25,000 toward the initiative and that the town's $75,000 would be used where other typical federal sources are not eligible.
Commissioners spoke in support of funding and praised the partnership model. One commissioner noted the potential Medicaid savings linked to preventive home-repair investments cited by the presenter. The motion to approve the nonprofit funding agreement carried unanimously.
The agreement directs the approved funds to Huntington Green critical repairs under the program terms discussed; commissioners asked staff to return with standard reporting and updates as the work proceeds.
