Union City approves paving payments, applies Liquid Fuels funds and allocates millings to community sites

Union City Borough Council unanimously approved disbursing funds to close out 2024 paving projects and approved reuse plans for paving millings at its June 25 meeting.
The council voted to pay a Cross Paving invoice totaling $104,740.81, with $92,130 to be paid from Liquid Fuels funds and $12,610.81 from the General Fund. Councilor Steadman moved the payment authorization and Councilor Kerns seconded; all present voted yes.
Separately, the council passed a resolution to apply $15,625 in County Aid toward payment to Suit-Kote for the 2024 seal coat project. Council also discussed that millings from the paving project need to be ground prior to reuse; Union Township agreed to accept and grind millings and will track quantities. The council approved supplying two to three loads of millings to the American Legion ballfield and confirmed a prior commitment to take a load to Evergreen Cemetery. The motion to approve the loads carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported Bentley Run stabilization work is complete pending topsoil and seeding, and that Cross Paving and Suit-Kote work on the 2024 paving projects is finished; catch basin maintenance and mowing remain ongoing. One streets employee is out on workers' compensation.
The council did not record opposing votes or amendments on these items; payment and disposition actions were carried as formal motions recorded in the minutes.
