West Columbia honors students who produced pedestrian-safety PSA for new flashing crosswalk

The City of West Columbia recognized students from the Brooklyn Lakeview Empowerment Center’s 21st Century after-school program for producing a pedestrian-safety public service announcement (PSA) tied to a newly installed rectangular rapid flashing beacon at North 12th Street and Monticello Street.
The resolution named students Haley Clark, Avery Daniels, Aiden Davis, Kamari Dickens and Christina Favor for writing, directing, acting in and producing the video. The city credited partnerships with the Active and Accessible Community Transit Coalition, the South Carolina Department of Transportation and the South Carolina Department of Public Health for the crosswalk project and related safety education.
Students briefly demonstrated the crosswalk steps in a short presentation: press the crosswalk button, check for warning lights and look both ways twice before crossing. The council approved the resolution unanimously and invited the students to the dais for applause.
