Hoskins trustees approve purchase of lot south of park, grant SDL for Feb. 21 benefit and approve routine bills

The Village of Hoskins Board of Trustees on Feb. 2 voted unanimously to buy the south half of a lot adjacent to the park on Willis Street, approved a special designated liquor (SDL) license for a Feb. 21 benefit, and approved routine bills and prior meeting minutes.
Trustee James Miller moved to purchase ‘‘the South half of the Vacated alley lying adjacent to Lots 3 & 4 in Block 11, Original Town of Hoskins, Wayne County, Nebraska and the North ½ of Lot 4 in Block 11, Original Town of Hoskins, Wayne County, Nebraska.’’ Trustee Devin Pekny seconded; the board recorded a roll-call vote with Miller, Kris Thies, Sarah Kimmel, Tyler Classen and Devin Pekny voting yea and the motion carried.
Earlier in the meeting Trustee Sarah Kimmel moved, and Trustee Devin Pekny seconded, to approve a special designated liquor license for Paint's Pub for a Feb. 21 benefit to be held at the Hoskins Community Center; that motion also passed on a unanimous roll call.
The board approved the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting minutes after a motion from Trustee James Miller and a second from Trustee Devin Pekny. Later, bills submitted for payment were approved on a motion from Trustee Sarah Kimmel, seconded by Trustee Tyler Classen; roll call was unanimous.
During staff reports Village Clerk Diane Doffin said W-2 forms for 2025 had been completed and staff set a March 2 meeting with the Rural Board to review an interlocal agreement. Doffin said she is registering for an Academy in March and a finance training in June. The board, with approval from LARM, authorized purchasing a gas monitor for an employee named Lee to use during confined-space entry. Monthly coliform water tests were resubmitted and returned OK, staff will contact the county sergeant to check the well, and the village has received quotes for street repairs.
The meeting convened at 6:00 p.m. at the Hoskins Community Center and adjourned at 6:35 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
