Hoskins trustees approve minutes, postpone several items and receive staff updates

The Hoskins Village Board of Trustees met June 1 at the Hoskins Community Center and took a series of routine administrative actions, including approving the May 4 meeting minutes and approving payment of submitted bills.
Trustee Sarah Kimmel moved to approve the May 4 minutes with Trustee Tyler Classen seconding; a roll call vote was recorded as all yea and the motion carried. The board later voted, on motions that passed by roll call, to postpone further action on a proposal to develop an animal control facility and on a building permit for 305 S Main St because the applicant was not present. Trustee James Miller moved to postpone the building permit consideration; Trustee Sarah Kimmel seconded and the motion carried with all yea votes.
The trustees also postponed a request to close 1st Street on the north side of the Community Center for a wedding dance on Aug. 29, 2026 so the village can consult Loader Bros. Equipment, which operates nearby; Trustee Tyler Classen made the motion and Trustee Sarah Kimmel seconded. Bills submitted for payment were approved following a motion by Trustee James Miller and a second by Trustee Sarah Kimmel; roll call was all yea.
Staff provided several operational updates: they submitted photos and prices for new playground equipment and the board selected several items to order now (lead time 12–14 weeks); the village applied to the Wayne Area Legacy Fund for a grant to help fund equipment purchases. Other staff items included a May water test reported as OK, scheduled siren testing by Norfolk Dispatch on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, attendance by two employees at continuing education in Macy, an ordered culvert for park repairs, plans to replace the west-side sidewalk for ADA access to the shelter, a replaced gearbox at the lagoons, and street repairs performed by Midwest Coatings.
Trustee James Miller announced he plans to retire at the end of the year; Trustees Tyler Classen and Devin Pekny are incumbents filing for the next term. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for July 13, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
