Hoskins trustees approve 5-year Sparklight franchise review, authorize radar speed sign and approve bills

The Village of Hoskins Board of Trustees met April 9, 2026, at the Hoskins Community Center and voted to approve a revised franchise agreement with Cable One, Inc., doing business as Sparklight, changing the contract-review interval from 20 years to reviews every five years. Trustee Sarah Kimmel moved to approve the agreement; Trustee Devin Pekny seconded and the roll call was all yea.
The board also approved routine financial business, including payment of submitted bills. Trustee Sarah Kimmel moved to approve the bills and Trustee Devin Pekny seconded; roll call was all yea. Trustees postponed consideration of a demolition permit for 113 E 1st Street because the required permit paperwork was not provided; Trustee James Miller moved to postpone and Trustee Tyler Classen seconded, roll call all yea.
On public-works items, the board approved ordering and placing a traffic radar speed sign on Main Street in an effort to slow traffic and improve safety. The board directed staff to obtain bids to replace or rebuild the municipal well pump and approved ordering a new garage door for the maintenance building. The clerk reported that the March monthly coliform test was satisfactory and that the Village’s 2025 audit waiver had been approved by the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts. Community Cleanup was scheduled April 22–29.
Financial and operational updates also included a presentation from the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD), which presented a check for $29,840 toward a park shelter and notification that three grants have been applied for to fund new playground equipment.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
