Board approves change order to advance HVAC work at Badger Drive to avoid future disruption

The Dean Board of Public Works approved contract change order number 2 with Level of Construction to perform HVAC work now at the Badger Drive Metro interior renovation so that ductwork can be installed before ceilings are closed.
Staff explained that certain HVAC work planned for the 2025 CIP would overlap with work now underway and that installing the ductwork ahead of the next phase would reduce future work, prevent damage to recently installed ceiling tiles and lower overall project costs. “So the next project wouldn't need to have that ductwork, etcetera, added on to that part of the project and it would get in place before the ceiling goes in, ultimately, resulting in less work for the next phase of the project and preventing any damage of the recently installed ceiling tiles and structure system,” staff said.
Board members asked about funding and whether doing a 2025 project now requires amending the capital budget. Staff responded the additional work will be paid out of this year's available capital budget and that the overall project remains under budget; a small overage would be covered from available funds and the next-year project should have more money if needed. “It'd be paid for out of this year's, you know, capital. We we are under budget on the project. There's just a little bit of overage that would need to be covered,” staff said.
Joe Piper moved to approve the change order; the motion passed unanimously.
