Council discusses Aurora Road homicide, new cameras and firefighter exam

Bedford Heights — At the May 19 meeting the council’s safety committee updated members on recent public-safety matters, including a vehicle homicide on Aurora Road, the planned installation of six cameras and recruitment steps for the fire department.
Chairman Anderson reported the fatal vehicle incident on Aurora Road, praised police work and said the suspect had been identified. Councilwoman Henderson immediately corrected that, stating the suspect was known but not yet apprehended and that authorities were allowing the person to turn himself in; she said the U.S. Marshals could become involved if the suspect did not surrender.
Anderson said six public-safety cameras have been authorized and are in the installation process but not yet all completed. He also announced an entry-level firefighter/paramedic exam to be held Aug. 5; applications are available online and must be submitted by July 24.
Council members asked staff to continue coordinating with the police department and to provide updates to the public on camera deployment and recruitment timelines.
