Norfork board hears update on summer meal deliveries for roughly 80 families

District staff told the Norfork School District board that summer meal boxes began moving last Thursday and that the program will continue weekly on Thursdays.
Staff said approximately 80 families — about 220 children, by their estimate — received 10 days’ worth of food boxes during the initial distribution. Each child receives a set of breakfasts and lunches appropriate for take-home service, and distict staff emphasized the program has no income eligibility: any resident under 18 who attends district schools can receive boxes.
An elementary secretary assembled route lists and volunteers helped deliver the boxes; staff asked the board for one person to serve as a coordinator to collect photos and stories about the program and to maintain records of deliveries.
Board members praised the effort, noted concerns (including dietary issues such as diabetes) and encouraged volunteer support. Staff said distributions will continue Thursday and that applications remain open for families who want service.
The program was described as a direct delivery model intended to reach families who cannot travel to a pick-up site.
