Mayor asks council to form 'Future Revenue' committee amid possible property-tax changes

The mayor told the Roaming Shores Village Council the village should create a Future Revenue Committee to study anticipated reductions in property-tax revenue and recommend sustainable funding strategies within six months.

In a prepared administrative report the mayor said the committee would "assess fiscal impacts, identify diversified revenue opportunities, review best practices, and provide recommendations to council within six months." Proposed membership includes the mayor/administrator, one council member, the fiscal officer and two residents with financial expertise; the fiscal officer would chair the committee.

Council members discussed scope and timing. One council member asked whether a police levy should be considered; the mayor said the committee should address that question and advised soliciting two residents with relevant financial experience. The mayor volunteered to lead the committee temporarily until membership is formalized.

The proposal followed broader administrative guidance the mayor presented at the meeting that administrative reports be concise and that day-to-day operations remain the responsibility of the mayor, administrator and department heads. The mayor also urged that council members not directly contact village employees for operational direction but route such requests through the mayor or administrator to protect accountability.

Next steps: the mayor asked council to propose resident candidates for the committee and staff to coordinate membership so the committee can begin work promptly.
