Bill Nolton, manager for Blanding Partners LLC, described a proposed 25‑unit low‑income family housing development on about 1.86 acres at 650 South Main Street in Blanding and asked the commission to consider a letter of support for a state funding application being submitted that day.
Nolton said the developer has city approvals and that Blanding City is contributing $233,000 in fee waivers and other commitments. He said the project would reserve three units for veterans and five units for people experiencing homelessness.
Nolton asked the county to sign a memorandum‑style letter confirming the availability of local service providers, rental assistance, security deposit programs and counseling so the state would view the application favorably. Commissioners said they could discuss the letter and, if signed by staff, ratify it at a subsequent meeting because the project was not listed as an action item on the agenda.
Commissioner Stubs described local housing needs tied to recent industrial growth and welcomed commitments for veteran and homelessness set‑asides. The developer said he had draft letters from veterans' services and other partners to strengthen the application.
The commission did not take a final vote on county commitment at the meeting; staff said they would attempt to have a signature available and, if necessary, ratify the letter in a future meeting.
