Duncan trustees approve minutes and bills, review ordinance changes, insurance report and maintenance tasks

The Village of Duncan Board of Trustees met on June 9, 2025, and handled a range of routine municipal items including approvals of minutes and bills, an insurance review, proposed ordinance language changes, and several maintenance and procurement directions to staff.
The board unanimously approved the May 12, 2025 meeting minutes (motion by Nick Wagoner, second by Lance Denbo) and later voted unanimously to pay the month’s bills (motion by Jerusha Ratcliffe, second by Lance Denbo). The board also received a property-insurance review from LARM representatives Clint and Issac; coverage amounts were discussed and the clerk was told an updated policy report would be provided.
On Ordinance 25-211, which would prohibit storage units and truck-boxes in certain zones, the board asked the clerk to expand the draft language to cover all zoned districts and to present an updated ordinance at the next meeting. The board reviewed a crack-seal quote and decided to solicit additional quotes before awarding work.
On park and public-works items, the board directed Utility Superintendent Doug Michalak to obtain red rock from Johnson’s Gravel and spread it behind the Post Office, and to purchase and install snow fencing on the north side of West Park before winter. Schlesinger directed Michalak to begin mowing both sides of the highway from the main intersection out to the lagoon to improve streetscape appearance.
The board reviewed an invoice for bathroom plumbing work at the ballpark. Contractor Gillespie told the clerk he had completed the work and expected full payment; Clerk Marianna Evans said the meeting recording does not show the board agreed to pay the full amount and the board postponed the reimbursement request to the next meeting pending clarification. Schlesinger said he would call Gillespie to resolve the discrepancy.
Utilities reported the new lagoon pump has been installed and is operating properly. Minor West Park vandalism was reported and some cleanup was underway.
The meeting adjourned at 9:04 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
