Duncan board discusses possible annexation by coordinating with Union Pacific and highway department

Village officials discussed a potential annexation involving Union Pacific Railroad and the Highway 30 right-of-way at the May 12 meeting, but took no formal vote.
Chair Gary Schlesinger said he had spoken with a contact at Union Pacific, who advised the village to reach back out on or after June 1. Schlesinger also reported consultation with the village attorney, who told the board that if Union Pacific and the highway department provide permission via letters, the village might not need to pursue a full legal annexation. If permissions are secured, Schlesinger said the planned relocation of a speed-limit sign could proceed farther east.
The board did not make a motion on the annexation item during the meeting; Schlesinger said further meetings would be required if Union Pacific and the highway department provide the requested permissions.
