Separately, the board approved an annual City of Cave Junction contract that funds one full-time deputy assigned to Cave Junction at a contract value of $211,471. Commissioners discussed the history of the agreement, coverage in the Illinois Valley and the Sheriff's Office practice of assigning multiple deputies in the area for officer safety and service levels; the vote was recorded as 3-0 in favor.
Sheriff Daniel also presented an annual cooperative law enforcement agreement with the U.S. Forest Service providing up to $50,000 in reimbursements for patrols on federal forest lands within Josephine County, which the board approved 3-0.
