Duncan schedules public hearing on proposed water-rate increases

The Village of Duncan Board of Trustees agreed July 14 to hold a public hearing Aug. 11 to consider proposed increases to water service charges and invited residents to a Town Hall-style presentation of the rationale.
Chairperson Gary Schlesinger said he wanted residents "to see the information and understand the justification in the increase," and the board asked Clerk Marianna Evans to mail a personal invitation to every household ahead of the hearing.
At the hearing the board will present two rate packages for public feedback: Option 1 would raise the monthly meter charge by $8 and set consumption at $2.85 per 1,000 gallons; Option 2 would raise the monthly meter charge by $12 with the same per-1,000-gallon rate of $2.85. No formal vote on rates was taken July 14.
The board did not set a final effective date; officials said the hearing will let residents ask questions and allow trustees to discuss the figures before any formal vote.
