Hyannis Area Schools board adopts new athletic participation and behavioral intervention policies

The Hyannis Area Schools Board of Education unanimously adopted two new district policies at its July 14 regular meeting.
Policy 6044, titled “Participation and Assignment of Athletic Teams: Stand With Women Act,” was moved by board member Chris Cover and seconded by Kevin Anderson and approved on a recorded unanimous vote. The board also adopted Policy 6045, “Behavioral Intervention,” on a unanimous vote after a motion from Clint Taylor and a second from Bob Meester.
Board members framed the votes as formal adoption of the district’s updated athletic participation and behavioral protocols; the minutes record no amendments or dissenting remarks during the recorded motions. The meeting also included review and discussion of multiple other policies, including Policy 5018 (Parent Involvement), 5057 (Title I Parental Involvement), 5045 (Student Fees), 5054 (Bullying), 4031 (Teacher Evaluation), 3040 (Safety and Security Committee), 5001 (Attendance and Excessive Absenteeism), 3004.1 (Federal Inventory Review), and 5052 (Wellness).
The board approved revisions to Policy 2008 (Meetings) and Policy 5003 (Admission of Part-Time Students) by motion of Kevin Anderson, seconded by Clint Taylor, with a recorded unanimous vote.
A proposal to create a stipend for a Head Lady Wrestling Coach was discussed but no motion was made; the item was tabled without action. District administrators in attendance included Superintendent/Principal Travis Hawk, Business Manager Lauren Kostman, Elementary Principal/Athletic Director Tiffany Rice and Brian Brennemann.
The board set upcoming dates related to the budget process: a Budget Workshop for Aug. 25, 2025 at 6:00 PM, a Budget Hearing on Sept. 2, 2025 at 6:00 PM, and a Regular Board Meeting to finalize the budget on Sept. 8, 2025 at 6:00 PM. The next regular meeting was set for Aug. 11, 2025 at 5:00 PM.
The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM by Board President Justin Vinton, who noted the Open Meetings Act posting and led the flag salute. The meeting adjourned at 5:52 PM.
