The Hyannis Area Schools Board of Education met May 12, 2025, in the high school library and approved several routine but consequential items, including $271,048.46 in general-fund disbursements and personnel actions.
The board, led by President Justin Vinton, voted unanimously to approve the meeting agenda and the consent agenda, which included the April 14, 2025 minutes and vendor payments totaling $271,048.46 (activity fund $16,235.71; lunch fund $9,356.63). The minutes list vendors and amounts that make up the disbursements, including PREMA electricity $10,064.39 and Mow Power weed control $6,323.60.
Administrators provided a financial review and Superintendent/Principal Travis Hawk and Business Manager Lauren Kostman reported that planned roof construction is projected to begin May 19, 2025.
On personnel matters the board accepted, with regrets, the resignation of Erin Merrihew following a motion by Clint Taylor and second by Kevin Anderson. The board also approved the administrative recommendation to hire Ashlyn Henderson as an elementary teacher (motion by Chris Cover, second by Bob Meester). The board further approved classified wages and set local bus and activity routes for the 2025–2026 school year (motion by Clint Taylor, second by Chris Cover). All motions passed with the recorded votes: J. Vinton, Meester, K. Anderson, Cover, M. Vinton and Taylor voting Aye.
Separately, the board approved a bid from Shane Spencer concerning a 2000 International bus described in the minutes as a vehicle that "will no longer pass inspections for student transportation;" the motion to approve that bid was made by Chris Cover and seconded by Kevin Anderson and passed unanimously.
The board set its next regular meeting for Monday, June 9, 2025, at 5:00 PM. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 PM. The minutes were signed by Secretary Chris Cover.
