Council committee advances Conservation Futures amendment to accept county funds for park acquisitions

Ward described two components: reallocations to close out prior purchases and starter allocations for potential acquisitions in Belltown, Lakewood Park and Delridge. Parks staff explained a new "site stabilization" category that covers demolition and immediate post-acquisition preparation costs, and noted the county can fund cost overruns such as higher appraisals or closing costs. The department said the Conservation Futures levy has leveraged more than $117 million for parks purchases since 1989.
Councilmembers thanked staff for the maps and district breakdowns and emphasized the value of acquiring green space in gap neighborhoods. The committee moved and seconded the bill and recorded four votes in favor; the measure will proceed to full council.
