Elizabeth Wood, president and CEO of the Canal Winchester Chamber of Commerce, briefed council on June 1 about staffing, programming and membership growth and thanked council for the Chamber's 2026 funding. "I'm Elizabeth Wood, President and CEO of the Canal Winchester Chamber," she said, and noted the Chamber received quarterly city payments this year totaling $65,000.
Wood said the Chamber is focusing on organizational stability and program growth. She reported annual sponsorships of $17,000 in 2026, up from $6,000 last year; Facebook interactions of 6.8K this year versus 3.1K at the same point last year; 19 events so far in 2026 compared with 11 last year; and event attendance of about 550 people (about 1,200 if the Canal Winchester Library opening is included). She said the nine-month Leadership Canal Winchester program is sold out (15 spots) and that it is expected to generate more than $14,000 for the Chamber.
Leslie Thornton, the Chamber's board chair, said the board has strengthened bylaws and governance and reported net revenue is up more than $52,000 as of April 30. "The Chamber is in the strongest financial position it has ever been," Thornton said. Mayor Steager and Chair Richard Moore offered congratulations. Wood invited council to the Chamber's 70th anniversary open house and ribbon cutting next month.
