Hermitage School Board renews solicitor contract, appoints treasurer and school health providers

The Hermitage School District Board of Directors on May 11 approved multiple personnel and professional appointments, including renewing the district’s solicitor, appointing the board treasurer and naming school health providers for 2026–27.
On a motion by Mrs. Perman the board renewed the engagement of Attorney Roger Shaffer (Barr and Shaffer) as the Hermitage School District solicitor for the term July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027; the engagement letter is on file in the superintendent’s office. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also appointed Mrs. Bethany Becker as Board Treasurer for the July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 term and acknowledged that Ashlyn Richards, a math teacher at Hickory High School, will receive tenure at the conclusion of the 2025–26 school year. Both actions were approved unanimously.
Transportation staffing updates were approved pending required clearances, adding Nora Garcia-Sheppard and Abrag Kanan and accepting the resignation of Kim Griffiths; the changes include daily transport contracts for students to Artman and from Hickory High School.
The board named Jean E. Wilson, D.O., as school physician (physical exams in grades K, 6 and 11; $1,600 retainer and an estimated 350–400 exams at $3.30 per exam) and Patrick Manganello, D.D.S., as school dentist (dental exams in grades K, 3 and 7; estimated 350–400 exams at $3.00 per exam). These appointments were approved by unanimous roll call.
