Law Director Thad Bogs told council the exemption covers value attributed to new structures placed on the site and includes both school compensation and a community benefit payment made by the property owner. "The resolution on the agenda this evening would authorize the mayor to enter on behalf of the city into the agreement with Malto Canal Point.2 for this CRA exemption," Bogs said during the discussion.
Council discussion included administrative details: members noted a community participation/involvement agreement is part of the package; the payment structure discussed during the meeting included a community benefit schedule of $0.25 per square foot at permit with 25% at occupancy. Bogs confirmed the agreement "follows the property regardless of whoever the land owner is" for a 15-year term and that assignments require city consent.
Council members and staff also discussed expected payment size for this project.
