Council renews airport engineering agreement to protect FAA-funded projects

The Russellville City Council voted March 19 to adopt a basic engineering services agreement with the firm listed in meeting materials as Mlullen Consulting Engineering Incorporated for airport engineering services.
City staff explained that the existing engineering-services listing with the Federal Aviation Administration would lapse and that the city has work orders that must be submitted by May 1. Staff told the council that failure to have an on-file engineering firm and to submit those work orders by May 1 would put at risk a grant the staff characterized in the meeting as approximately $638,000. Several council members said they were satisfied with the firm’s prior airport work and noted the firm’s aviation-focused staff and participation in aviation organizations.
After discussion about local firms and prior experience, the council adopted the resolution and authorized the mayor and city clerk/treasurer to sign the agreement. Staff noted continued coordination with the FAA on the five-year timeline for on-file agreements and upcoming work orders.
The action was presented as necessary to preserve grant eligibility and the city’s ability to proceed with current and planned airport projects.
