Amery School District board approves Academic and Career Plan after committee presentation

The Amery School District board voted to approve the district's Academic and Career Plan on a motion after a spotlight presentation by business teacher Ramona Lockwood.
Lockwood, who said she has worked on ACP "ever since I started back in the '90s," outlined four core components the plan emphasizes: career advising, dual enrollment, work-based learning and workforce credentials, and staff development. "The state now mandates that we do this work, but it's not a funded mandate," she told the board, adding that most activities are supported through grant dollars.
She described classroom and advisory structures that guide students from early grades through the high school Warrior Time program, opportunities to earn college credit through River Falls, Northwood Tech and Chippewa Valley, and work‑based experiences that lead to industry credentials. Lockwood noted recent state grant payments of roughly $38,000 that the district used to support CTE facilities and training materials.
Board members asked questions about professional development credit and logistics. Lockwood confirmed extra activities can yield PDH credit when staff complete additional, optional programming and that the district maintains a calendar of required dates.
After the presentation and Q&A, a motion to approve the Academic and Career Plan carried. The board directed staff to post the adopted plan on the district website and notify the Department of Public Instruction that the district has completed the required plan documentation.
