Morrow County ratifies inaugural community assistance grants, awards $455,955 to local groups

The Morrow County Board of Commissioners ratified the county's inaugural Community Assistance Grant awards on June 18, approving $455,955 in distributions to community organizations.
County staff said the program received 28 applications; five were ineligible because they were taxing entities. A citizen-staff review committee scored applications and recommended awards that prioritized critical services such as senior services and food pantries. "I just want to take my hats off to that committee, particularly Christy Kenny who was our staff one of our staff representatives," the county administrator said, noting committee follow-up calls and clarification work.
Among the recommended awards were one-time capital funds for Willow Creek Terrace Assisted Living and operational support for Morrow Discovery Center, South Morrow Arts Center and the Pacific Northwest Veterans Alliance. Staff said they intentionally preserved prior levels of funding for some long-standing recipients while trimming or reducing other requests to reconcile the available budget.
Board members asked about reporting and stewardship. Finance staff confirmed the program requires recipient reporting and said failure to comply would affect future eligibility. The board moved and carried a motion to ratify the committee's recommendations and finalize distributions.
Staff signaled this is the program's first year and that the county will refine processes (eligibility, scoring, committee composition) for future cycles.
