Spalding County to run six-week summer pilot transit service connecting parks and aquatic center

Spalding County’s manager told the Board of Commissioners on June 1 that the county will test a six-week pilot transportation program this summer to shuttle residents between neighborhood parks and the aquatic center.
The pilot will include stops at Fairmont Park, Oak City Park, the Senior Center and the aquatic center. Staff said schedules and signage will be posted publicly and that riders under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult per aquatic-center rules. Commissioners clarified that the city of Griffin is jointly funding 50% of the pilot, a funding partnership county staff said made the pilot possible.
The program is being framed as a test to increase park and aquatic center participation and to assess the feasibility of continued service; staff will monitor ridership and operational issues during the pilot and report back to the board. County staff also noted continued progress on the T-SPLAST road program and said contractor CW Matthews will return to complete road work previously delayed by weather.
Commissioners encouraged community outreach to promote the service and stressed parental supervision rules for young riders. The manager asked residents to share schedule information and to help the pilot succeed by using the service and providing feedback.
