Watertown‑Mayer Public School District leaders told the school board May 18 that the elementary principal search is proceeding on a fast timeline designed to name a replacement before the end of the school year.
The posting opened May 1 and will close May 20; roughly 25 candidates have applied. The district will invite six candidates for first‑round, day‑long interviews on May 27, then reduce the field to three finalists for a June 2 visit that will include a meet‑and‑greet for staff and students and a building tour, Mr. Scheler said.
As part of the finalist process, the district will use a Human X Venture phone screening to collect additional data on the finalists’ fit for Watertown‑Mayer. Mr. Scheler said the screening is a roughly hour‑long phone interview and was used in the district’s previous principal search.
The administration is targeting the week of June 5–10 to make a recommendation to the board, with a formal contract expected to be presented for approval at the June board meeting.
Community involvement is built into the process: the site interview committee will include the board chair and the PTO president among others, and the district sent a parent survey to collect input on the qualities parents want in the next principal. Mr. Scheler said staff also contributed a set of desired qualities that will be included in candidate materials.
