Avon staff reports ongoing road-work phases, planning approvals and parks grant at June 11 council meeting

Town staff used the June 11 meeting to brief the Avon Town Council on project timelines and recent approvals that shape local services and development.

Public Works Director Steve Moore reported utility relocation work at 100N/Raceway is ongoing, Phase 3 road lanes will remain open during construction, Phase 4 planning is underway, and a Phase 5 design contract will go to the RDC. He also reported the start of CCMG work on 200S, ongoing sidewalk work and drainage projects in Pines Estate and Pine Tree.

Planning Director Linda Ahlbrand said the BZA meeting in May was canceled, the Plan Commission approved Wright's Gymnastics and a plat for a lot near Target, and approved Avon Logistics Building 6. She said the June BZA has two petitions for a wash-and-roll car wash and that Nirvana Sports is on the plan-review schedule. A staff project, IWorq development, is reported half complete.

Shelby Pride (Parks & Sports) said the PRBC and the Park Foundation of Hendricks County secured a grant for a project applied for by Tiffany, Phase 1 of trail safety work is complete, WCCD required a sewer hookup at APEX Park and a contractor has been chosen to complete the work. Pride reminded attendees of Night at the Park on July 3 and the weekly Tuesday Farmers Market.

APD Chief Stoops reported that lead mediation in the new police facility is complete, the Avon Police Merit Board awarded officers medals for recent actions, K9 Officer Vigo and Officer Mader graduated training, Officer Sadjak is attending ILEA, and a Battle of the Badges blood drive is set for June 24 at Harmony Baptist Church.

Don Hodson provided a public-comment update on town elections during the meeting’s public-comment period.
