BPW awards $25,000 community grant to City of Zeeland for playground relocation and reuse

The Zeeland Board of Public Works voted on June 9 to award its 2026 Community Grant—$25,000—to the City of Zeeland for the Community Playground Relocation and Reuse Project.
Board members said the applicants were all deserving and selected the City’s proposal to salvage playground equipment from the existing Bethel Christian Reformed Church site for relocation and reinstallation on new property. The award will fund salvaging and repurposing the equipment as part of the City’s playground project. The motion was made by Commissioner Cooney and seconded by Commissioner Walters; it carried unanimously.
Separately, staff noted The Bridge Youth Center requested a one-year deferral of its $7,500 FY2026 Community Grant due to competing organizational priorities; staff recommended allowing the deferral and incorporating the funding into the FY2027 budget pending no objection from the Board. That deferral request was informational at the meeting.
