Florence board ratifies police vehicle repair, approves referee payments and hazard plan update

The Florence mayor and board on Sept. 2 approved a series of routine administrative actions including a police vehicle repair estimate, payments for youth football referee fees, authorization to work with a local magazine on a promotional brochure and an agreement to update the city's hazard mitigation plan.
Chief Burns recommended ratifying Coleman Taylor Transmission estimate #511678 to repair the transmission on a police Ford Explorer (serial #1FM5K8AR3BGA79478) for $5,665.44; the quote was the lowest of two (A-1 Gear & Auto quoted $5,952.80). Alderman John Banks moved to ratify the Coleman Taylor estimate, Alderman Brent Sistrunk seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Park Director Mark Hester requested payment to the Rankin County Football League for 2025 tackle referee fees ($3,142.00) and flag referee fees ($1,058.75). The board approved both payments in separate unanimous motions.
The board also authorized Mayor Trey Gunn to work with Hometown Magazine to produce a promotional brochure aimed at economic development. Separately, the board authorized entering into an agreement with the Central Mississippi Planning & Development District (CMPDD) to update the current Hazard Mitigation Plan in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000; Alderman Brian Grantham moved the CMPDD agreement and Alderman Mason Herrin seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The board approved the claims docket and the minutes of the Aug. 19, 2025 meeting before adjourning at 7:05 p.m.
