Select Board backs CEO on trash-dumping enforcement, authorizes legal support

At the Aug. 19 meeting, the Bradford Select Board voted to support the CEO in pursuing enforcement under the town's trash-dumping ordinances for a property that has been cited for open dumping. Edward Nevells moved the measure, Levi Surette seconded, and the motion passed on a 3-2 vote.
Board discussion reviewed potential costs associated with enforcement: the minutes list estimated legal fees of $4,000–$5,000 per case and dumpster costs of $3,000–$4,000 per case; if the town takes enforcement to court the minutes note it could be spring before a court outcome is achieved. Chris told the board he had emailed the lawyer 13 photos of the site and said the lawyer advised the property "meets the requirements" (per the minutes). The minutes also said the ordinances are in place to handle open dumping.
The board's vote authorizes support for CEO-led enforcement actions, including legal action if required. The minutes record that the first of the properties is already cleaning up; the board did not direct immediate court filing but authorized support should further legal steps be necessary.
