On Aug. 19, 2024, the Bradford Select Board voted to allow the use of $15,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help cover reduced town office staffing hours. The motion, made by Timothy Bubar and seconded by Edward Nevells, passed with one abstention (Carlene Oakes).
Board members discussed overlapping window hours between Carlene Oakes and Karen McNaughton and the need to reduce staffing hours to stay within the current budget. Chris presented a spreadsheet of office-window hours and duties and said the office currently operates 29 window hours and is requesting an additional 25 hours (as presented to the board) to maintain coverage; the ARPA request is intended to recover lost hours while staffing levels are adjusted.
The board recorded the vote as 4-0-1 with Oakes abstaining. The approved ARPA allocation is to be added to a list of proposals for ARPA money the town will compile. No timeline for how the additional hours would be scheduled or when the ARPA funds will be disbursed was provided during the meeting.
The board's action directs staff to include the $15,000 request in ARPA proposals and to report back with implementation details at a future meeting.
